Flyer about Thrivent Choice Posted: 07/30/2010

Help warm hearts and touch lives with Thrivent ChoiceSM

If you are a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, you have a new, easy way to help support what matters most to you—even your own congregation.  Through Thrivent ChoiceSM, a new charitable grant program, members can help choose where Thrivent Financial distributes some of its charitable funds each year. The program has two components: Voting Events and Choice DollarsSM. Through Voting Events, all members age 16 and older can vote to help choose where Thrivent Financial distributes funds among a short list of national organizations. Voting Events occur one or two times each year.  Eligible benefit members also are designated Choice Dollars. By directing Choice Dollars, they can request funding for thousands of Lutheran organizations nationwide, including Camp Mount Luther. Potential designated Choice Dollars amounts that can be directed range from $25 to $500 for each eligible member.  If you are eligible to direct Choice Dollars, you will receive a letter in August with details on how to use your Choice Dollars to give to Camp Mount Luther.  If you are uncertain about your eligibility, visit Thrivent.com/thriventchoice, or contact your local Thrivent Financial representative.  We hope that you will choose to designate some or all of your Choice Dollars to Camp Mount Luther!!!!  Here is a flyer about the program:  newsitems/Thrivent Choice CML.pdf

Week 6 Wrap and Announcement Posted: 07/24/2010

Greetings to you from Camp Mount Luther on this hot summer Saturday!

We have just finished Week 6, which was our biggest week of the summer so far.  It was Scooby Doo Week and the kids solved the mystery of the neighbor who was trying to get us to leave camp so he could buy it and turn it into a camel farm!  The Mystery Machine even made an appearance during All-Camp on Thursday night!

Unfortunately, no campers signed up for our Camel News Patrol elective on Wednesday (most thought it was better to stay in the pool and they were probably right) so we didn't have a Camel Tracks newspaper this week .  However, we do have important news to share so we thought we'd communicate through this e-mail.

We are happy to announce that June Bricker will begin her duties as our new food service manager on October 1, 2010.  June is from Mifflintown, PA, and is the spouse of Rev. James Park Bricker.  Jim has served as our chaplain to the staff the past two summers.  June will take over for Carol Segraves, who will be retiring at the end of the summer.  We'll have more on June in camp communications in the coming months but we wanted to let you know of this development.

June will be in camp during Week 8 to work alongside Carol and learn more about our kitchen and their routines.

"We are extremely blessed that June was open to this opportunity and are excited for the gifts she brings the the position.  June brings an understanding of our camp program and a desire to improve upon what we already do.  I'm particularly excited that June is willing to expand our new program of having a garden in the summertime.  She's worked hard this year as this program started, volunteering to get the plants in the ground and spending countless hours weeding and tending the garden.  She and her husband have also started a composting program this summer.  I know we can expect exciting new things with our food service program," Executive Director Chad Hershberger said this week.

As we look forward to the future, we continue to celebrate the ministry of Carol Segraves in these final weeks of camp.  Carol has agreed to cook for a few events in September and has shown a willingness to help June in this transition.

Monies to purchase a gift for Carol are still being accepted.  If you would like to donate, please send a check to Camp Mount Luther, 355 Mt. Luther Lane, Mifflinburg, PA  17844.  Work also continues on a cookbook of favorite recipes and memories of Carol that should be available around Christmas.  If you'd like to contribute a story or favorite recipe, please e-mail it to chad@campmountluther.org

Week 7 is Off-Site Day Camp Week.  Our staff will be at four sites, doing off-site day camps.  Please pray for them as they minister to children at Beaver Lutheran Church in Beaver Springs; St. John's Lutheran Church in Richfield at Basom Park; Zion Lutheran Church in Turbotville; and St. John's Lutheran Church in Espy.  There will be no weekly Camel Tracks next week due to the nature of the week away.

There are still openings for Week 8 (August 1-6).  If you've been to camp this summer, you can come for half off.  If you haven't been to camp- we'd sure like to see you!
