Common Questions

What if I don’t go to church or have a special need?
Mount Luther welcomes all, regardless of denomination, race, nationality, age, gender or ability.  Our goal is to help you grow in your faith.  We try to accommodate any camper who would like to attend.  If your child has special needs, including dietary concerns, please contact us prior to registering.

Are camperships available?
Yes.  We have two campership funds which can provide aid to those who have financial need.  The Rev. Conrad B. Youse Fund is supported by individuals and Lutheran congregations.  Monies are distributed upon written request of need through the camp office.  The Rev. Leslie Doyle Fund is supported by individuals from Episcopal congregations and is also distributed upon written request of need through the camp office.  In addition, members of Episcopal parishes can apply for scholarships through the diocesan office by contacting The Rev. Robyn Szoke.  Usually, the camper pays 1/3, the parish pays 1/3 and the diocese will pay 1/3.

Can I come for more than one week?
You bet!  There are discounts if you attend more than one week.  You pay half price for your second session.  You pay full price for the week that costs the most and half price on the other weeks.

Where will I be staying?  Do the cabins have bathrooms?
You will stay in Maple or Pine Village.  The cabins have bunk beds; the village has a central bathhouse.

Who will be in my cabin?
We will assign your cabinmates based on your program and age so any cabinmate requests must be the same age group and program.  Please request a cabinmate when filling out your registration.  Mount Luther practices small group camping- one cabin of boys works with a cabin of girls.

What about the summer staff and my counselor?
You will find out who your counselor is during registration.  Our committed and carefully chosen staff are primarily from those two entities and are college students who contribute toward our weekly Christ-centered communities.  Counselors help campers learn, answer a lot of questions, help you discover new things, and serve as a role model!  They sing silly songs, act in outrageous skits, and show God’s love through Bible exploration, campfire programs, and devotions.  We also rely on many volunteers during the summer program to help it go.  Pastors are invited to spend a week as our spiritual leaders, assisting in worship and Bible study.  Registered nurses and doctors are invited to spend a week and help us with our health care.  Special Camp Leaders lead our specialty camps.

Do you have medical staff on duty?
Yes.  Most weeks, a volunteer nurse or doctor is in residence.  Also, counselors are trained in First Aid, CPR and AED.  Medical forms are required to attend camp which includes a portion completed by a physician.  Lifeguards provide guidance at our waterfront.

What should I bring to camp?
A complete list will be sent in your registration confirmation packet and is available on our website.  In general, special items are not needed for a week of camp.  Campers wear comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor summer recreation.  Rain gear is essential.  Please leave cell phones, food and candy, spending money, and other expensive or sentimental items at home.

If I’m over 16, can I drive myself to camp?  Senior high campers may have cars parked in designated areas.  They need to have a note from their parents stating they can drive to camp and sign themselves in.  Their keys shall be turned in at the office on Sunday and they should not use their cars during the week.

Where is the camp located?

In Union County, five miles west of Mifflinburg, PA at 355 Mt. Luther Lane.   You can reach the camp by calling (570) 922-1587.  E-mail can be sent to cml@campmountluther.org.
