Another Fun Evening at Shade Mountain

By Chad Hershberger

Sometimes, you attempt something on a whim, not sure how it will be received. That’s what we did in 2012 when we first hosted our Evening at Shade Mountain Winery fundraiser. It’s hard to believe that last Friday night was our 13th event. (Naturally, we had to skip the year of the pandemic). The evening featured lots of fellowship and good food, made by our own Toni Gessner. She fed us with great appetizers and desserts. New this year in the serving line was ham and roast beef sliders! The brownies with toffee were also a hit! About 50 people attended and I saw so many smiling faces. I heard conversations that included tons of laughs. I saw reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. All in the name of supporting our outdoor ministry at Camp Mount Luther. One of the hallmarks of the camp experience is intentional community. That was evident on November 7, albeit away from our camp property. What we do in outdoor ministries transcends our sacred space outside Mifflinburg. It’s the foundation where friends can meet- even at a winery! The evening is about making those connections and helping to support a place that means a lot to all those in attendance. We raised over $6,300 for the camp. We will also receive a portion of the wine sales that night from the generous folks at Shade Mountain Winery. Instead of a live musician, which we had for many years, we featured a mix of slow jazz music. I’m grateful to all those who came out. Thanks to all for a great evening!
