Camp Mount Luther Sunday: Save March 2, 2025

By Chad Hershberger

When I started as camp director, one of the things I felt we needed to do was have a designated Sunday in our synod to uplift the ministries of the camp. We partner with the church to share the gospel and form the faith of children, youth, and adults, so having a day to celebrate that work is together important.

I went to the synod council, and they agreed, designating the third Sunday in January as Camp Mount Luther Sunday across the Upper Susquehanna Synod. Years later, we determined that January was a tough time to make that happen effectively, so we changed to Transfiguration Sunday, which moves each year in the liturgical calendar. We picked that Sunday since many who come to camp have mountaintop experiences, just like the disciples did when Jesus was transfigured before them on a mountain.

With all that in mind, mark your calendar for Sunday, March 2, 2025, as this year’s Camp Mount Luther Sunday. We ask you to prayerfully consider promoting Camp Mount Luther in your congregation that day. Ways to promote the camp include bulletin inserts to share with congregation members, Temple Talks, camper testimonials, bulletin board displays, special camp music during Sunday school and church services as well as a special collection.

We hope that you will encourage your congregation to participate. We will have more resources coming soon to help plan. If that Sunday does not work, you can do a Camp Sunday any week that it will work. The idea is just to uplift the church camp experience and share how it is important in the lives of children, youth, and adults and in the life of our church.
