February 28, 2023: I Miss Camp

Reading: Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.

Reflection

I miss Camp. For a variety of reasons, it has been over six months since my last stay at Camp Mount Luther. That’s a long time for me to be away from those hills where my help comes; where I feel close to the Lord. Where my feet walk the earth as I look up to heaven. Where I sleep knowing that if I wake in the silent stillness and deep darkness of the night, the Lord, who does not slumber, is right there with me. Where I am kept safe, fed, and well. For those reasons and more, I will keep coming and going from Camp Mount Luther now and forevermore.

While I know the message of Psalm 121 is the same wherever I am every day, today I just miss Camp. So, I think right now I will register for Family Camp July 4-7, 2023. I may, however, still try to get there sooner as July would be 11 months since my last stay and that is simply far too long.

When will you be at Camp Mount Luther next? Maybe see you at Family Camp!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for being with us everywhere. Thank you for those places where you feel very close. Help us to look to you for help anywhere and always.

Amen.
