In the last thirty years, Camp Mount Luther has often had a meal as part of our fundraising efforts. If memory serves me, the last one we did was a spaghetti dinner take-out during the days of the pandemic in Summer 2020.
When I started as director, the tradition was to have a chicken barbecue. Those were pretty popular, and we even built the chicken barbecue pit at the pavilion to aid in those preparations. But as with everything, attendance and interest dwindled.
In the 2010s, we did a string of Turkey Dinners in January to celebrate Ben Franklin’s birthday. He wanted the turkey to the national bird of America, so we had that dinner to celebrate Franklin. It was a weird stretch, but in the dead of winter, people appreciated being able to gather in community around a meal.
Due to increasing costs and decreasing attendance, our camp board is working on ways to increase revenue and cut a proposed budget deficit in our 2025 budget. So, we are bringing back the fundraising dinner to raise some additional funds for our 2025 Annual Appeal.
You can join us on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Center at the camp. The dinner will be held immediately following the camp’s annual Taste of Camp event featuring songs, snacks, games, a campfire program, information on the 2025 program, and more!
The menu will consist of ham, twice-baked potatoes, vegetable, roll, dessert and beverage. A minimum of $15 per person is suggested as a donation for the meal. Reservations are needed and can be made by contacting the camp office at (570) 922-1587 or cml@campmountluther.org. The deadline for reservations is Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
Come and enjoy some fellowship, fun and good food during the wintertime at Camp Mount Luther! It should be a great afternoon to gather and support our outdoor ministry!
