Reading: Romans 13:11-14
Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Reflection
My kids’ preschool does a unit on appropriate clothing. Should we wear a swimsuit if it is snowing? What do we wear when it’s raining? At our house we also have separate drawers for play clothes vs. school clothes.
In the reading today Paul tells the Romans to get ready for salvation. The day is near and it’s time to get dressed! What to wear, what to wear?
The armor of light, of course! We should put on Jesus Christ!
Whether we are working in the yard or going to a ball, we should always be donning Jesus. He is a base layer, in our hearts, and outerwear that we show to our neighbor. Time to get dressed!
