Preview: 2024 Week 1

By Chad Hershberger

Camp is right around the corner and we’re so excited to see all that God has in store for us this year!

As we built the summer schedule for this year, we had two guiding principles. First, due to smaller counselor and camper numbers, we condensed the schedule a bit so that our campers will be less spread out across the weeks. Secondly, you may have noticed that we have eliminated our age group names. Instead, cabin groups will create their own name and cabin identity this year and share that at our opening on Sunday! We continue to offer three lengths of program: week-long, mini (half week) and day. And we brought back theme weeks!

Week 1 is an all week-long camp week. We will have ages 9-17 in camp. We also are offering our Service And Leadership Training (SALT) for senior high aged campers each week this summer.

Week 1 is also Night Owl Week. Our campers will have the exciting experience of staying up later and later each night and doing nighttime activities. This has been a very popular camp in years past—we have lots of kids who like to stay up at night!

Our traditional camp for senior high campers is that week as well. We like to pamper them a bit, since they are usually longtime campers who are very dedicated to Mount Luther. Our cabin leaders come up with some creative programming ideas and usually we have a night where these campers dress up for dinner and have a special activity. I remember particularly enjoying this age group when I was a counselor, because they are so independent and open to deep conversation.

This will be the first week for our new camp schedule, too. We have pushed back check in time for campers to Sunday between 4-5 p.m. This allows our staff more time on Sunday afternoon for some planning and getting ready for our campers. On Friday, we will end with a closing communion worship at 3:00 p.m. Camper families are invited to join us for worship!

If you have not signed up for camp yet, there is still time to do it!
