Giving to Mount Luther

An intentional Christian Community; where all of God’s children can strengthen and renew themselves in body, mind, and spirit… A place to witness God in the glory of Creation…that’s Mount Luther.

100_0942Tommy was a typical boy.  He liked to play ball, loved to catch bugs, and, more than anything else, he wanted to go to summer camp.  Living with his mother, money was tight and there wasn’t any extra for things beyond the basics.  She wanted him to go to camp—to meet new friends, learn about Christ, worship in the outdoors, play new games, and catch lots of bugs—but it just didn’t seem financially possible.

Through a generous campership provided by friends of Mount Luther, Tommy was able to spend a week singing, worshipping, praying, making new friends, studying nature, playing games, and 100_8455even catching some bugs.  He also strengthened his faith and learned new Christian songs he could share with others.

Your gifts to Mount Luther help make Christ known to children, youth, adults and families who participate in programs at Mt. Luther can encounter unique worship experiences, prayer, meditation, study and adventure in the midst of Christian community.   Mount Luther is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation that is dependent upon the sustained generosity of our many friends and the congregations of Central Pennsylvania.

craftsAt Mount Luther all participants can:

  • Develop a deeper commitment to God
  • Relate their growth to their church, family, and other experiences
  • Develop a sense of identity and self-worth
  • Relate to the world of nature and gain skills for living in it
  • Learn to make Christian and effective use of their time
  • Gain leadership skills and confidence from a Christian perspective
  • Become more emotionally mature and self-assured

When a person develops a deeper commitment to God their connection to the Church is strengthened; both the individual and the Church will flourish! The continued support of caring individuals, families, and congregations allows Mount Luther to continue its mission of Making Christ Known through Outdoor Ministries.

Here are some giving opportunities:

Adopt a Building
Since 1993, congregations of the Upper Susquehanna Synod have adopted cabins at Mount Luther. Each congregation is responsible for cleaning, inside and outside maintenance, and the replacement of mattresses, covers, and other small items in the cabin. Work is typically done at the camp's spring work day. When extra maintenance work is done on the building, congregations are notified to help share the expense.

PTDC0043Annual Fund
Mount Luther requests contributions to offset our general operating expenses. You can make a donation anytime during the course of the year to help Mt. Luther’s budgetary needs. Donating to the annual fund helps keep fees as low as possible for all participants.

The Birthday Candle Campaign
The camp is attempting to pay off the debt on our Evergreen Center as soon as possible.  To do that, the camp board and the Upper Susquehanna Synod authorized a fundraising effort to celebrate our 50th birthday.  For every $12,000 raised, one candle will be put on a birthday cake.

Circle of Faith100_0922
We are reminded of all the people who have been such a great “cloud of witnesses” in our camp’s history.  These people are linked to us, as they have shared their faith and dedication to Christ through their work in this place.  Because they shared their time, treasure, and talents, we can enjoy Mount Luther as we know it today.  And we, who support this ministry through our time, talent, and treasure, are linking to future generations, as we set the future course for the camp.  It is increasingly evident that annual fund gifts are very important to our ministry.  These are gifts which are unrestricted and underwrite a large number of our budget lines, from summer staff to maintenance costs.  They are the gifts that sustain our work and help us to ensure that the ministry of sharing Christ and planting seeds in God’s name is carried out.  We now have an opportunity for you to show your support to our ministry.  It’s called the Mount Luther Circle of Faith.  It is open to those who arrange for a monthly gift to the annual fund.  You can send a check every month, sign up for electronic funds transfer through your financial institution, or give via your credit card each month. The Circle of Faith is a great opportunity for you to demonstrate that you value our outdoor ministry so much that you say, “You can count on me for a regular gift every month!”  As you consider the amount of your gift, here are the monthly amounts for our giving levels:

Friend: $1-$8/month
Camper’s Club: $9-$20/month
Counselor’s Club: $21-$41/month
Director’s Club: $42-$83/month
President’s Club: $84-$416/month
Bishop’s Club: $417 or more/month

Designated Gifts
Your designated gifts provide specific programs or resources for the camp. These gifts may include but are not limited to: nature, camping and adventure program development, music, recreational and/or maintenance supplies. Memorial gifts may be made to the camp to remember and honor a loved one who has joined the Church Triumphant. This is a personalized heartfelt way to memorialize your loved one for years to come.

Sponsor a Fundraiser100_8472 - Copy
In the past, congregations have sponsored fundraisers at their church with the proceeds benefiting Mount Luther's programs and facilities. Many of these projects can be matched by fraternal organizations. One thing you can do is enlist volunteers to do the work and get donations for the items you need so that more money can be realized through your efforts. With a little ingenuity and some work you can easily help out the camp by raising money. And, in the process, you can experience Christian fellowship and fun.

Thrivent Choice
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members can donate their local Thrivent Choice dollars to Mount Luther.  When you receive notification that you have dollars to designate, please designate Mount Luther!

100_0844Time and Talent
Mount Luther not only depends on your generous financial support, but also requires the contribution of your ideas, your abilities and your time.  We are always eager to consider new thoughts and ideas on ways to improve our ministry and expand programming for all ages. Mt. Luther also recognizes the unique gifts and talents that God has given us as individuals. Individuals and families who are willing to share their talents along with their valuable time are always welcome. Please consider Mount Luther the next time you or someone you know is in need of a service project, too.  There is always something that needs done at camp!  You can schedule a time when a group of people can come and do a servant project, working on something that needs done at camp. It can be a great bonding experience and of course, service is faith in action!

Wish List
Mount Luther maintains a "Wish List" of items we are currently seeking. New or lightly-used items are needed to continue maintaining our programs and keep our property in top condition. Financial donations are needed to complete some other projects. Individuals or congregations who can assist in providing any of the items should contact the camp office.  Items are posted in our “Camel Tracks” newsletter.

Youse Campership Fund and Doyle Campership Fund
Camperships provide scholarships to children whose family cannot afford the registration fees. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to attend Mount Luther. Unfortunately not every family has the resources available to send their children to camp. Individuals and congregations alike have designated gifts specifically for the campership program. Both full and partial camperships are granted upon request, based on need. It is our hope and the hope of many that the Mount Luther experience be available to all! The fund for Lutheran campers is named after the Rev. Conrad Youse, a former administrator of Mount Luther. Pastor Youse provided strong and faithful leadership in the field of outdoor ministries for over thirty years.  The fund for Episcopal campers is in memory of Rev. Leslie Doyle, an early co-director in our joint Episcopal/Lutheran summer camp week.

The thoughts, feelings, and impressions of all members of the Mount Luther family mean a lot to us. We urge you to contact the camp via e-mail, fax, telephone, or U.S. Postal Service with feedback regarding any aspect of Mt. Luther. Feel free to leave your message anonymous if you wish. With ideas from the people we can make our camp better for the people. To make a gift to Mount Luther at any capacity please call the camp office at (570) 922.1587, e-mail us at, fax us at (570) 922.1118 or send your contribution to: Mount Luther, 355 Mt. Luther Lane, Mifflinburg, PA 17844

Your gifts to Mount Luther will continue to touch the lives of many for generations to come. A gift to the camp is a gift to a camper. A gift to a camper is a gift to the Church.
