Since I wrote Friday about our Christmas celebrations, you may think by the title that this blog will be about us baking Christmas cookies. If you are a cookie aficionado, you will be disappointed. However, Christmas cookies are sometimes given as a generous act around the holidays and I’m going to tell you about another generous act where cookies are involved.
Last week, we had mini camp for our youngest campers. On Tuesday, one of our camper’s grandmothers picked him up. Two of her other grandkids were here for the whole week. She stopped to see me and handed me an envelope of cash. It was for our capital campaign, Foundations for the Future.
The grandmother and three of her grandkids baked cookies one day. They wanted to sell them during Pottsgrove’s recent yard sales day. So, the kids and grandma baked cookies. They set up a table outside the Lutheran parsonage along Route 254 on the designated day and I’m told they sold out!
Campers Daphne Buck and Carson Campbell, two of the bakers, told me that they made four kinds of cookies from scratch: peanut butter blossoms, regular chocolate chip, double chocolate chip, and a chocolate cookie with peanut butter inside. They also made “granola like” bars.
To promote their selling endeavors, they made signs and posted on social media.
“We wanted to help with the renovations at camp,” Daphne said. Carson added that he told people about our Maple bathhouse project, and it really felt good to do this for Mount Luther.
In about an hour after their sale began, they sold out. A gentleman came by and bought what was left (totaling about $40 worth of cookies!) He allowed the kids to eat some of their profits. Daphne had a double chocolate cookie because, “Those are my favorite. They are really good!” Carson opted for a peanut blossom.
We are grateful for these kids who supported our campaign in this way. It is great to see their spirit of generosity and that they can’t wait to use our new Maple Village bathhouse. It was a great story to hear during our Christmas in July celebrations last week!
If you’d like to contribute to our capital campaign, you can do so here.
